MLB Icons Box Break

After the really solid break I had with the NFL Icons, I decided to try the MLB version since it was a lower price point, but stated it would have the same five "hits" ( two letterman, two swatches and an auto). As I've stated before, I love the Icons set. As a collector who is just returning to the trade, it gives great bang for the buck. Red means traded, green means not trading and yellow means make offers.

Letterman: Cole Hamels: E /45, Ken Griffey Jr.: N 35/35

Swatches: Legendary Icons - Ozzie Smith, MLB Icons - Michael Young ---Neither Numbered

Auto: Brett Gardner /500

MLB Icons: Josh Beckett and Alex Gordon /999

Legendary Icons: Ozzie Smith --- No Number, red border

MLB Rookies: Rick Porcello and Dexter Fowler /599

I love former player cards, so the Ozzie Smith's were definate keepers, while everything else would end up trade bait. I have since traded the Hamels and Griffey Jr. letters and Gardner Auto. While I only got an Ozzie Smith to add to my keeping collection, I got a few Beckett listed cards that I knew I could used to trade at Premium Investments.

2009 UD NFL ICONS - My First Box Break In At Least Eight Years

So I bought my first UD Icons box after doing a little research and finding that it has a solid hit rate for its price. One of the "issues" with this product seems to be the Lettermen inserts. I happen to like them, while I don't know if I'd collect anyone other than Bo Jackson or Ditka, however as I have stated I have just started collected and have few letters anway. I am about building a foundation

The Lettermen hits were;

Movie: Sean Austin : D (to spell RUDY) 49/56 and Immortal : Rocky Bleier R (to spell STEELERS) /65

Auto: Class of 2009 - Shonn Greene 63/99

Jersey Swatches: Decade of Dominance - T.J. Housh /199 and NFL Icons - Willie Parker /299

Random Inserts: Diecut Holofoil - Brandon Pettigrew NFL Rookies 45/50 and Santana Moss 12/75. Foil - Tony Romo Base 108/125. NFL Icons Foil Matt Hasselback and Larry Johnson /450. Decade of Dominance Foil - Jay Cutler /450, Class of 2009 - Louis Murphy /499. Greats of the Game - Barry Sanders /199. NFL Legends Base - Mike Ditka, Fred Biletnikoff and Bubba Smith /599.

All in all, I loved the box. This was probably due to getting a great auto and solid inserts, but for the price I recommend UD Icons to anyone looking to box bust.

(I have traded the Bleier Patch and Parker Swatch with the store I get my stuff Premium Investments in Mishawaka, IN, which I will talk about more in a later post. Anything not green highlighted I would be willing to trade.)

So I started collecting sports cards again.

Note; around January 15th, I started collecting cards again and these posts are going to be rapid when I list what I've opened in the last few weeks.

I started with getting a few "blaster" boxes at the local Wal-Mart, which wasn't a terrible way to get back into collecting, but on terms of worth, I would go back and get hobby only boxes. The chase insert and "hits" in blaster boxes aren't very good. I did get one pretty sweet hit in a SP Signature Edition.

An America's Team Emmitt Smith Game Used Jersey.

Other decent "hits" I received were;

2006 UD - Rookie Futures - Brandon Marshall - Event Jersey
2007 UD - Rookie Jersey - Dwayne Bowe
2006 Topps DPP - Jeremy Shockey - Game Worn Jersey
2008 Playoff Absolute - Marks of Fame - Jason Campbell 94/200

The Emmitt Smitth is a $40 price point in the past two Becketts and I'm a big fan of the throwback players, I enjoy them more the current NFL players since I work in football.

Professionally unprofessional at this.

Warning; This is the first blog, of my first blog ever.

I have worked for a prominent college football team for three years and will be heading to an NFL team. Through the three years, I have accumulated some nice memorabilia, and since I am moving to a new state and a new place I have decided to have a "memorablia" room or the "boss hoss" room as the Z-Man puts it. Without disclosing my full identity yet (haven't decided if I will or not) I plan on sharing some inside stories, rants, sports card box breaks and new found memorabilia.

Hope you enjoy.
